SCC's newly-elected Transition Team is pleased to announce that Reverend David S. Gregory, a talented and experienced minister, is serving as SCC's Acting Minister for the next four months. He has spent the last decade in and around New York City and the Hudson Valley, first as a settled minister and later as an interim and supply minister. He is currently secretary of the Commission on Ministry for the New York Conference and for a number of years was chair of the Committee on Authorized Ministry for the Hudson Mohawk Association. A native of Ohio, Reverend Gregory is the father of two grown sons, and is married to veteran Broadway performer Tripp Hanson. A more detailed biography is available in the Church Narthex.

Reverend Gregory will be helping SCC transition from the end of Rev. Fran Wise Grenley's superlative work at the Church to the start of Rev. Kelly Hough Rogers' eagerly anticipated arrival beginning early next year. Please join us in greeting and supporting David and his family in the months to come as we move towards a new era in the life of the Church.

Joya Colon-Berezin feels very fortunate to have found her way to the SCC congregation. Most recently she served in ministry at Middleton Community Church UCC as Director of Christian Education (Middleton, WI) and at Bethel Bethany UCC as a Ministry Associate (Milwaukee, WI). Originally, Joya hails from New York City. She is a graduate of Oberlin College (2002) and New York Theological Seminary (2012). She has a background in faith-based community organizing, and worked for the United Methodist Church (UMCOR) and Church World Service as Ecumenical Relations Coordinator for the Immigration and Refugee Program. Joya completed her ordination process at The Riverside Church in NYC and has been authorized for ordination, pending an ordainable call, by the Metro Association of the New York Conference of the United Church of Christ. In recent years, Joya has become an avid tennis player, and fan. She and her wife Charisa Kiyo Smith, who just began as a Visiting Professor at CUNY School of Law, have recently settled in White Plains, NY. (After signing a lease sight unseen, they are quite relieved the apartment turned out to be lovely!)

Lay Leadership

As Congregationalists we govern ourselves. We call our clergy, set our own budget and determine all major issues affecting our corporate life. In essence, we bear the responsibility for ourselves as a Church.
