Children’s Sunday
On Sunday June 4th, the Sunday School students at the Scarsdale Congregational Church led worship on the annual Children's Sunday service. From music to prayers to scripture to the message of the day, the children and youth were the authors of the service. This year the theme of the service was ‘God’s Invitation to Jubilee Justice.’ The biblical concept of Jubilee represents a holy year (once every 50 years); a year of forgiveness, restoration and equality.
All year the children and youth of Scarsdale Congregational Church have been living out and embodying the scripture by "Loving their neighbors." Through volunteering with Grassroots Grocery, Midnight Run, the United Interfaith Food Bank and The Emergency Ecumenical Food Pantry plus other worthy organizations, the children and youth have been learning how acts of service and social justice are ways to put their faith into action. Lead by our wonderful volunteer teachers and Rev. Joya Colon-Berezin our children and youth have been exploring the intersection of faith and institutional injustices. In a sense, the children and youth and praying with their hands and feet through action and service this whole year.
To culminate this year of Jubilee Justice, the youngest members of Scarsdale Congregational Church lead the congregation on a Procession for Justice and Peace from the front door of our Sanctuary to the corner of Heathcote and Routee 22. Many community members honked in support of our peaceful procession and offered words of encouragement as the congregation marched and sang, "We Shall Overcome." The march was a symbolic way to publically proclaim moral outrage and to share a message of hope in the midst of despairing circumstances.
We are continuing this season of Justice Jubilee with our annual Pride Celebration this Sunday, June 11th at 10am. All are welcome to join.
